Charger screen black or frozen
A black or frozen screen can come from a charger with no power, a faulty screen or electronic board, or a charger stuck in a state it no longer leaves.
Safety first
- Never open the charger or the electrical panel: only a qualified person may work on it.
- Burning smell, abnormal heat, smoke or crackling: stop charging from the vehicle or the app, do not touch the charger again and have a professional cut its power.
- In case of smoke or flames, move away and call 112.
- Never force out a hot or damaged cable.
What you can safely check
- See whether the charger shows any other sign of life: light, badge reader lit, fan noise.
- See whether the other chargers on the site work: if all are off, the site’s power supply is probably the cause.
- Try starting charging from the app, if the charger allows it.
- Do not open the charger and do not cut its power yourself to restart it.
When to request a visit
- The screen stays black or frozen while the other chargers work.
- The charger shows no sign of life any more.
- For an operator: the charger no longer reports to the monitoring system.
