Red light on the charger
A red light signals a fault detected by the charger itself: power supply, communication with the vehicle, internal protection. The cause can often be read from the code or the blinking pattern.
Safety first
- Never open the charger or the electrical panel: only a qualified person may work on it.
- Burning smell, abnormal heat, smoke or crackling: stop charging from the vehicle or the app, do not touch the charger again and have a professional cut its power.
- In case of smoke or flames, move away and call 112.
- Never force out a hot or damaged cable.
What you can safely check
- Note the colour of the light, how it blinks and any code displayed: it is the first useful information for the technician.
- Check that the cable is fully pushed in at both ends and that the vehicle is unlocked, then restart charging from the vehicle or the app.
- Try another vehicle or another cable if you have one: you will know whether the fault comes from the charger.
When to request a visit
- The light stays red after a restart.
- An error code appears or comes back at every charge.
- The charger no longer lights up at all.
